5/6S

Hello and welcome to Class 5/6S's page!
I am Miss Smith, and I am the class teacher in our class. We are also incredibly lucky to have the wonderful Mrs Lancelott supporting us too.
Here in Year 5/6S, we will learn about interesting topics, and our learning follows fabulous themes. This year’s learning will take us on a journey to space and all the way back to the Anglo Saxons era. We will also learn about the significant changes our bodies will go through as we hit puberty, take part in more creative activities during our Art and DT lessons, and learn about a variety of music styles and their origins.
Reading is also particularly important to us in 5/6S, and we aim to give everyone the opportunity to develop a love of reading-by-reading whole class texts, with opportunities to read independently and the chance to become a Reading Ambassador for our school. Children will also use Accelerated Reader quizzes to help ensure they have a sound knowledge of the texts that they have read.
For the Year 6’s, they will face new challenges on their trip to PGL and will take part in bike ability sessions. Also, we will guide children through the preparation process for SATs, having lots of opportunities to complete practice papers and become familiar with the assessment process. Although, children may find this daunting, rest assured, we will be on hand to support the children (and parents) through every aspect of ‘SATs. You can help your child at home by ensuring they read regularly and practice their Times Tables to keep their knowledge of the facts fresh.
For the year 5's, they will have the chance to take on new responsibilities and take part in different enrichment opportunities.
All the children have access to Purple Mash, where they can access activities to enhance their learning experiences. This year, children will complete weekly homework in a book to deepen their understanding of the Topics we are covering and to support their progressive steps.
Finally, we want to share as much of our learning with you, so you can view what the children are up to and access all the latest news and updates from our class by keeping a close eye on our Class Dojo Story.
