Hello and welcome to Class 5/6T's page!
I am Miss Topping and I am the class teacher in our class. We are also very lucky to have the wonderful Miss Dignan & Miss Cook supporting us too.
Here in Year 5/6T we learn about some interesting topics and our learning follows some fabulous themes. This year learning will take us back to World War 2, as well as finding out about what life was like for the Mayans. In Geography, we will learn the importance of Fair Trade and what impacts it has around the world as well as staying a little closer to home and learning about our local area and how things have changed through time. Our learning and fun does not stop there – we will learn about important changes our bodies will go through as we hit puberty, take part in more creative activities during our Art and DT lessons and learn about a variety of music styles and their origins.
Reading is also very important to us in 5/6T, and we aim to give everyone the opportunity to develop a love of reading. This is done through lots of whole class reading, opportunities to read independently and the chance to become a Reading Ambassador for our school.
For the Year 6’s, they will be guided through the preparation process for SATs, having lots of opportunities to complete practice papers and become familiar with the assessment process. Although, for many children, this can be a daunting time, rest assured, we will be on hand to support the children (and parents) through every aspect of ‘SATs’. You can help your child at home by ensuring they read regularly and practice their Times Tables to keep their knowledge of the facts fresh.
Finally, we want to share as much of our learning with you, so you can see what the children get up to on a daily basis. Keep a close eye on our Class Dojo Story, and click ‘Follow’ on our Twitter page.
